The Left Will Come for Life Itself
Your desire to remain alive is probably Oppressor Ideology
As a totalizing cult, the Left aims to capture and collapse any and all functional institutions and customs. Whatever is normal, beautiful, true, and good is Leftism’s target. We see the corruption, the grooming, and the malicious denial of reality and biology all around us. What happens when we follow Leftism to its logical conclusion? We know that Clown World keeps getting worse and weirder, but where’s it heading, exactly?
Recently there’s been a justified uproar about Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying program (MAiD). Canada — leading the way in these horrors, as they often do — is making it a lot easier for people who don’t want to live to get themselves euthanized by the state. There’s much to be said about MAiD, but right now let’s focus on MAiD as an entry point for something broader: The Left’s obsession with death and dying, and how that relates to their ideas about liberation.
So, again: When Leftism encounters something normal, what does Leftism do? Leftism destroys the Normal Thing. In an academic context, this destruction is often styled as the “deconstruction” of colonial, white supremacist, or Western “norms” or “ways of knowing.” These supposedly archaic systems of knowledge (things like science, logic, morality, and merit) are viewed as oppressive. The Academy utilizes this pretentious philosophical framework in order to attack the things that regular people care about — childhood innocence, the family, success, happiness, etc.
We often refer to Leftism and Wokeness half-jokingly as a “mind virus,” but let’s take the metaphor seriously, and consider that prions might be an even more accurate comparison. In prion disease, the prions — infectious proteins — collapse other proteins within the brain/body of an animal, and those collapsed proteins go on to collapse the proteins around them, and so on, until the organism turns to mush and dies. Leftism is like ideological prion disease, but with an important distinction: Leftism scales, or spirals, upwards. That means that as Leftism progresses (we can refer to this process as “the dialectic”), its targets become increasingly — outrageously — fundamental.
Because the dialectic has been allowed to progress significantly here in the Western world, we’re now encountering overt efforts to “collapse” our families, our children’s mental health, our livelihoods, and many or most of our basic, tried and true assumptions, institutions, and customs. Based on this track record, it’s reasonable to assume that Leftism, allowed to progress further, would seek to destroy the Ultimate Normal Thing. One likely candidate for the role of Ultimate Normal Thing is our innate survival instinct — our desire to not die.
The will to be alive is incompatible with Leftism and is a logical target of the dialectic. It is perhaps our most powerful conscious or unconscious drive (love gets an honorable mention here too). Through a Leftist lens, we are utterly subjugated by our unexamined, plebeian desire to exist. Since we haven’t deconstructed our will to live (and perhaps synthesized it with some sort of “enlightened” suicidality), we haven’t been “liberated” from it, in the Marxist sense. The Left, however, is leaving us lots of clues about how things are shaping up in the death and dying department: MAiD, #ShoutYourAbortion, Medical Lysenkoism, and fetishistic warnings about overpopulation all tell us that the ideology is more important than life, and that, indeed, life interferes with the ideology.
Leftism has been after our kids for a long time, but only recently have we watched as chronic, covert grooming blossomed into an overt, mainstream, Boschian nightmare. It’s the same with death and dying. We see the incremental, macabre nihilism — we’ve watched them whisper and tiptoe around their love of annihilation. Their voices are getting louder now. Faced with the progressively worsening subversion of goodness and truth, we must double down on our willingness to defend life itself. Cede no ground! Life is sacred.
